A Gift Of Hope

As I drive to work each morning, she is there at the same place, at the same time, with a dirty blanket covering her from head to toe. She is sleeping on a hard cement bench at a bus stop, I wonder to myself what does she dream about, what was her life like before, does she still have Hope, or has she completely given up. One afternoon after work I passed her once again, I see her face for the first time, she is sitting on the same bench, her blanket tucked away in a little dirty suitcase beside her as if she is waiting , what is she waiting for. Maybe she's just Hoping, but what is she Hoping for.. Lord, she is someone's daughter, sister, or mother, but most of all she is your child.

He is there once again, at the same place each morning, in the same position, with the same look in his eyes. A look that speaks louder than words, that silently pierces a heart, eyes that seem to have some Hope left. What position is he in? he stands with his left hand held out, not flatten, but folded up a bit as if whatever he Hopes to receive will remain safe and secure. He doesn’t go up to the cars begging, he doesn’t hold a sign that says will work for food, he just stands there in silence Hoping.

I listen to the cries of hopelessness, despair, fear, desperation as well as frustration, when I pick up the phone at work . People needing help, right now, right at that moment, they don’t know where their next meal will come from, or how they will feed their families. They are on the verge of being evicted and fear being homeless, their electricity will be, or has been disconnected. The elderly are so overwhelmed and express just how tired they are in between their sobs.
These are just some of the stories people share, the list of needs grow more and more everyday.

There are times when I have to take a break and go into the restroom because my eyes fill with tears. I know there are paperwork and procedures they must go through, there are qualifications and appointments required, but how can you tell someone who is so desperate that they have to go through all of that. It is at that moment that I hear the Lord speak to my heart as he reminds me about the weight of the world that was upon his shoulders when his outstretched hands were nailed to the cross. The weight that weighed him down, even as he made his way to the cross despite the heaviness of it all. I pray and say Lord, I can’t do anything personally to help these callers in need but my heart can't help but feel their pain.

I hear him gently speak and he says..

When all you can do is pray.. Just pray.
When all you can do is listen.. Just listen.
When all that you say may not be what they want to hear at that moment.. Just be gentle, kind, and compassionate, for it’s not what you say ,but how you say it that can make a difference.

When all you can do is cry.. it's okay, I’ll cry with you.
When you have tried your best.. leave the rest with me, and pray that they will find me through their struggles and hardships. Remember Lorie you found me through your hardships and struggles, I was your hope, and I’ll be theirs as well, and I say…

Yes Lord.. I remember, and I wipe my tears and I thank him for filling me with more of his love, kindness, gentleness, compassion, and most of all his words of hope.

My Prayer.. Lord, people need you now more than ever, all we have to do is look around us and see the hardships and struggles. During this time of giving of gifts, let us give a different kind of gift this year to someone in need. Let us give gifts of love, compassion, kindness, gentleness, and your words of hope. Help us to find ways to give of ourselves whether it's through volunteering to feed the homeless, helping a needy family, handing out a warm blanket or a hot cup of coffee. If each one of us can just touch one person what a difference we can make in spreading your love and hope.

Amen.

Thank you for sharing this. I am so desperate to "do" something sometimes that I often forget that praying is "doing" something. I love what you said, when all you can do is pray...then pray. It's not about only praying, but it's about doing what it is you CAN DO at the moment for that person. I can't adopt ALL the orphans in Africa every 14 seconds as their parents die to Aids, but I can pray that God will show His love to them somehow, someway, and if it is His will for me to adopt one or two or three, then He will reveal it in His time. I guess you get what I mean. Thank you for sharing this, it was beautiful.

Blessed Sunday.

Boy oh boy, did this tug at my heart. I could feel the frustration thinking of all that paperwork when you just want to give someone something to eat!

May God fill them to FULLNESS and OVERFLOWING!

What a powerful reminder of the suffering that goes on in our world. It makes me feel so helpless. It reminds me of that story about the little starfish that the little boy threw back into the ocean. Someone told him there were so many starfish on the sand that throwing that one back in the ocean wouldn't help. The little boy replied that it would help that one. We need to remember to help someone when we have the opportunity.

I am at moments in my life where I think that I can't afford this or afford that or being able to pay my bills...but then I remember that Jesus will never forsake me or ever let me down...I know that he will bless me in all that I do...then I try not to worry any more and know that everything will turn out for good who loves the Lord. I am saddened by the homeless and I count my blessings everyday that my daughter and I have some where to live. thank you for always inspiring me and boosting my spirits so that I can smile today!

Another beautiful post reminding us to pray for those who are in need. Without hope where would we be. I pray God will give hope to all those who are in need. Sometimes that's all we can do is pray for them.

These people are lucky that they have someone as compassionate as you at the other end of the line.
I remember when I was younger, on my first trip to NY with my family....we went out to a famous deli and had a snadwich that seemed to me, so young, the size of NY. We took the half I didn't eat as take out and ended up giving it to ahomeless man. I wasn't sure about it, kinda scared, but it turned out to be such a joy for him. He was so thankful and I think that is the first time I really remember feeling compassion.

I know if it is God's will for you to bring home even just one of those precious children he will make it possible. My girlfriend went to Africa to help at a blind orpha village, she was so blessed by each of them.

Hi Sal..
Always a blessing to see your smiling face, I agree folks need Jesus, what a gift to give someone today, the gift of Jesus.

Hi Lea!!
For food, families normally won't have to wait they just go down to our Family Services and pick it up. The thing that takes time and paperwork is when they are applying for Rent or electric assistance, because the need is so great in this area the waiting for an open appointment and getting their paper work togther is what takes time. But it is necessary in order for us to help and to keep records of who applys, but they do end up getting the help. lately the foodbank has been running low on food, but thank God for the heart of the people here in Hawaii they continue to donate food to help make sure more keeps coming in.

Hi Andrea,
Good to see *U* my sistah!! Thanks for the visit and for sharing your heart with me today.

HI Kelly..
I think that is where my heartbreaks the most is for the children, even now with Christmas season many will be going without even a toy of gift. The Toys For Tots are running low as well this year on toys for needy kids.

Hi Sandi..
Hope is needed so much even more so during this hard times with the ecocnomy and all.

Hi Pastor Clif,
It is always a blessing to see you when you drop by, thanks for being such an encouragement to me!!

Hi Char..
Happy Sunday!! I finally got to post again after getting over a really bad cold and asthma complications. Thanks for dropping in, I love that story about the Starfish what a wonderful analogy of being able to help even just one soul.

Hi Joy,..
Yes the Lord is faithful, I think it was David who said that he has never seen God's righteous forsaken, or their deed begging for bread. He truly is supplies our needs.

He purifies and humbles us for His great plan for wholeness comes forth ! Praise God He cares even more than we do for with Him He can also supply all the needs. Isn't that awesome?... to have all the funds, supplies, plans ect to do what is needed in the lives of all created in His image? It is true in our pain and sorrow we find exactly what we need and more if we will receive. Thanks for your heartfelt post it is truly a blessing. Love you sistah! rilda *U*

Thanks for the nice comments on my blog. Here is the link for putting snow on your blog if you want to try it.

I think the WordPress snow is better than the Blogger snow. I put snow on my Blogger blogs but took it back off because it made the background jump. I've seen it on other Blogger blogs though and it looks fine. You might want to try it. I really enjoy the snow on my WordPress blog.

J's knick knacks have but they are $1.00. they do come in all colors...I know J's sell them as a book for $21.95. I hope this helped. thanks for stopping by and leaving me such wonderful comments. take care.

Lorie,
I can't imagine what you must feel at times, and it's harder for you to have to see people in pain on your way to work-I'm so glad those people have you to show some kindness.
This was a touching story for me. I used to live in Syracuse, NY. I was not saved at the time. I was a young whipper-snapper and thought I had everything I needed. Then I started seeing people pushing carts on the sidewalks-full carts of all they owned. I saw beggars, dopers, drunks, mean and scary people. People that had nothing and were ignored by everyone. It was a nightmare for me, a country hick who didn't even know how to cross a city street the right way. I couldn't handle the emotion of it, and after a while, I called my Mom to come and move me back home. I was rescued! God can rescue each of those hopeless ones-the outside appearance can be desperate and filthy, or it can be spit-shiny clean like a bank president. Our hearts are filthy until we make room for Him.
I love you,
Debra

I heard it said to make a point to be kind to everyone you meet because a lot of people are struggling with something in their lives, and the person before you may be too. Too often we think it is all about us . . . when rarely it is.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this one as aiways you bring a blessing to many. Be blessed

I can so relate to this Lorie. I often find myself in tears for others and wanting so badly to be able to help them with their needs. God has whispered the same thing to me. Pray and He will use their circumstances to draw them to Him. It's hard to remember.

Sorry I haven't been around too much. It's been so busy lately.

Love your photo in the ornament! You're so cute. :)

My sister,

What a beautiful post...

Your compassion is so vividly apparent here...

And your very right...

Sometimes all we are called to do is just be there...

to just sit with someone in their pain and listen...

There is such healing in simply being seen...really seen by another human being.

May you be blessed with wings of peace this christmas...and may your love change the world,

With love,

Maithri

Your compassion speaks so eloquently...

To simply sit with another in their pain,

To embrace them and share their dark night...

Is to become the light,

May soft light surround you always my sister,

With love, Maithri
