Christmas Without Daddy.

A little girl stared out the window
As snowflakes fell upon the ground.
Her Daddy had gone to be with Jesus
He would no longer be around.

You see on every Christmas eve
He would sit her on his knees
And read the Christmas story
Of how Christmas came to be.

Each night he would carry

And tuck her into bed
And place a gentle kiss
Upon her sleepy head.

And she never forgot
These words that he prayed...

Dear Lord, please watch over her
And never leave her side.
And when she’s sad and lonely
Hold her close, in her abide.

Let a star shine brightly so
That she will always know
I’m in the heavens watching her
Wherever she may go.

The little girl looked up
And she saw a star so bright
And she knew that her Daddy
Was watching over her this night

She said God bless you Daddy
And blew a kiss his way.
Please say Happy Birthday to Jesus
And Daddy…. I’ll be okay.

Dedicated to my Dad, who is now with the Lord. I miss him so much but more so during the holidays, he always decorated our family Christmas tree as far back as I can remember. I can still see him carefully placing each ornament in just the right places, he was the male version of Martha Stewart (smiles). I now carry on his spirit of creativeness, decorating, and poetry.

I am sorry that you have lost your dad. On December 19 it will be 10 years since my step-children lost their mum. It's hard at this time of year to be without the ones we love.

I know exactly how you feel. My father passed away over 3 years ago. I miss him too. I was "Daddy Girl" and I keep those memories near to my heart.

God Bless you!

This post makes me think of my grandfather who raised me. My biological father still lives, but Papa was the one who I shared all those "daddy" moments with.
Thank you for bringing back those sweet memories!
Blessings, andrea

Ok, so now I am weeping along with you! That was a beautiful poem. I know the feeling of not having parents around during the holidays. My own parents are gone to the Lord, but it does not make my heart ache any less. I miss them both so much. Wishing you peace and tranquility this Christmas Season. May you experience the love of the Lord especially during your lonely times. Like that star, your dad is smiling down at you and is present within your heart.

Sister, your precious post had brought tears to my eyes, for my own earthly father passed away, too on Dec.2007. I miss him so much! But those tears became tears of joy for I was reminded by your words "Let a star shine brightly so
That she will always know
I’m in the heavens watching her
Wherever she may go..." that he is indeed in His Kingdom and how comforting to know that now, I have two watching me from above: my daddy and my DADDY! Blessings.

Hi Lorie,
What a beautiful tribute! Very touching! I miss my Daddy too! He always made Christmas so much fun and it is because of him that I decorate the way I do. I have carried on his tradition. The love of the Saviour and the gift He gave to us, and family; that's what Christmas is all about. God bless you Lorie, and I pray He comforts your heart in your times of lonliness.

Blessings and hugs,
Sandi

What a beautiful poem. You are blessed to have had a father like that. I loved my father dearly, but he never became a Christian. It is one of the sorrows of my life. Thank you for sharing your heart.
Blessings,

This will be my first Christmas without my Dad as he suddenly passed away on May 26th. I made it through Thanksgiving but Christmas is going to be harder on me since my whole entire family gets together and when I don't hear my father's voice, my father's laughter and when I look over at where he would normally sit he will not be there. I miss my Dad more and more every day but to know he will be spending Christmas in Heaven warms this heart of mine. Beautiful poem!

Oh pooh, I hate trying to read when crying. I love the poem. What a wonderful sentiment. I know what you mean about missing your dad. My father passed away in Dec. of 2001 and not a day goes by that I don't wish I could call him and chat.
Thanks for sharing the lovely poem.

That was absolutely beautiful. What a precious bond between a father and daughter. It is a good reminder to the rest of us to take time nurturing that relationship with our dads while they are with us, and not to take a moment with them for granted.
